An insight into ‘Compatibility’

Compatibility is a word very commonly used between romantic partners, to express the ability to get along with one another. What exactly does it mean to you? Are two people born with it? Or is this something that they build upon? I don’t know how everyone perceives it. But, what I feel is, it’s something that two people build upon, as they live and grow together. I am a 28 year old, and my family, my friends, my work place and a vast multitude of experiences in my life have shaped me into the person I am today. Another person, who’s also 28 years old, who enters my life today- is a different 28 years of mind, body and soul that I do not know. Their life experiences have shaped them into someone, who in many ways is different from me. It’s needless to say that it’s too much to expect that from this day onwards, our personalities should intermingle. To be fair, this comparison of being compatible, should ideally be made only after the time spent with the person is at least somewhere near to the time spent without. Technically speaking, wouldn’t be possible even after 28 years of togetherness! Even after 28 years of togetherness, it’s very much possible, that the two people are such strongly cemented personalities still very different from each other, inside out. In my perspective, it’s too much to ask for. What makes it beautiful is, the ability and the willingness to accept the differences. Easier said than done, but something to think about.
